J.JUAN celebrates 60 years of continuous innovation

J.JUAN celebrates 60 years since its creation. To commemorate this milestone, the company has planned various activities and events throughout the year, focusing on both the future and its history, which has been marked by constant innovation in the motorcycle sector.
From its beginnings as a leader in the manufacture and sale of cables for motorcycles and bicycles (accelerator, brake, and clutch cables), the company continues to be a pioneer in the production of hydraulic tubes for brakes, clutches, and suspensions, equipping over 1,400,000 motorcycles worldwide each year and serving as the official supplier for over 90 brands. This is a true achievement as the company reaches its 60th anniversary, and as such, J.JUAN will organize various activities and initiatives to celebrate this anniversary.

A legacy that started in 1947
In 1947, José Juan identified the need for spare parts for bicycles, the most common mode of transportation at the time. It was then that he noticed the scarcity of components and decided to innovate with brake cables, a simple but essential element for cyclist safety. This led to the creation of the first J.JUAN workshops, small establishments scattered throughout Barcelona, which quickly gained the trust of manufacturers and spare parts dealers.
It wasn’t until 1965 that the company was formally consolidated under the name J.JUAN S.A. and established itself in Esplugues, in the heart of the Spanish motorcycle industry, alongside iconic brands like Montesa, Sanglas, Ossa, Bultaco, and Derbi. By then, the company had already become a leader in both the bicycle and motorcycle sectors, equipping legendary riders such as Ángel Nieto, Santiago Herreros, Ricardo Tormo, Jorge Martínez Aspar, and many others.
Today, six decades later, we celebrate that vision that allowed J.JUAN to become a major company surpassing one hundred million in revenue, always staying ahead of market trends.

Adaptation and international growth
In the early 1980s, when the Spanish market opened to Japanese brands and local manufacturers began to partner with them, J.JUAN demonstrated its ability to adapt. While other competitors struggled to understand the new quality systems, J.JUAN had already adopted and perfected them, thanks to its global vision. Even though Spain was considered an emerging industry, J.JUAN succeeded in breaking into more demanding markets like France and Italy, consolidating its international presence.

Innovation in hydraulic brakes
In the 1990s, J.JUAN anticipated the rise of the disc brake, which did not rely on a traction cable. Its R&D team worked intensively on a solution to improve performance without compromising safety, resulting in the braided hydraulic tube. This innovation allowed braking force to be transmitted efficiently and precisely from the master cylinder to the caliper, even in extreme heat conditions, without losing hydraulic pressure.
J.JUAN continued to improve its systems, developing a connection between the braided tube and the rigid tube, capable of withstanding high-pressure levels, further enhancing the efficiency of the hydraulic system. This advancement was key to the integration of ABS in motorcycles.

Constant innovation: present and future
Throughout these 60 years, J.JUAN has maintained its innovative spirit, always seeking ways to surprise the market. Even now, when the hydraulic tube market seems mature and secure, with the backing of Brembo’s knowledge and expertise, the company continues to innovate with products like the semi-automatic clutch, which BMW has already adopted for its R1300 GS model, and hydraulic systems for competition that allow MotoGP riders (such as Ai Ogura, Moto2 MotoGP World Champion 2024) and Superbike riders (through collaboration with the new BbKRT project in WorldSBK) to compete at the highest levels.
J.JUAN not only equips motorcycles but has also expanded its technology to high-end vehicles from brands like Aston Martin and McLaren, among others, as well as side-by-side vehicles (winners of the Dakar Rally in their category for the last six years), where their hydraulic suspension systems deliver exceptional performance.

Looking to the future
Over the last 60 years, J.JUAN has managed to transform critical situations and threats into opportunities for improvement, growth, and better service from its production plant and HQ in Barcelona (Spain), the production plant in Jiaxing (China) and its offices in Milwaukee (USA), Tokyo (Japan), and Pune (India).
Innovation at J.JUAN never stops. Actually with more than 650 employees, the company continues to develop advanced technologies that will make a difference in the future models of motorcycles and buggies, some of which will incorporate Brembo and ByBre braking systems. This ongoing innovation has earned the company numerous awards in Europe, North America, and Asia, reflecting manufacturers’ satisfaction with integrating J.JUAN hydraulic tubes into their vehicles.
